Anthropic didn’t ship a new model this month. That turned out to be the useful part.

At their big developer conference, Anthropic skipped the new model and spent the day making the current one easier to actually use: memory, self-grading, agents that hand off. If you’re not a developer, that’s the part worth caring about.

I went quiet for a couple of weeks, so this one catches you up on the part of the month that actually matters for the kind of building you do on a Tuesday night. Short version: Anthropic held its big developer conference and, on purpose, didn't announce a new model. They spent the day making the model you already have easier to put to work. If you've been reading these, you know that's the point I keep coming back to.

At Code w/ Claude 2026, their annual developer event, the big move was a non-move. No new model. Instead they doubled the usage limits on Claude Code, raised the ceiling on their top model, and shipped a handful of features aimed at one thing: letting tools run on their own.
